A rich history
The history of Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet, based in London, United Kingdom, is firmly rooted in its founding in 1573, when Queen Elizabeth I granted a royal charter for the 'Free Grammar School of Queen Elizabeth in Barnet'.
The charter, requested by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, established the School as a place of education for boys, which included a grammar course and other academic pursuits.
The School's historic heritage is an integral part of its identity. Its traditional British education continues to influence its academic excellence, operational practices and ethos even in the 21st century.
Pillars
Our mission
Our mission is to nurture confident, able and responsible young people; prepared to lead happy and fulfilled adult lives and to make a positive contribution to others.
Confident
We nurture confidence through encouraging self-expression, active participation, and leadership at all ages. Whether speaking in assembly, presenting in class, or performing on stage, students are given the tools and support to develop their voice and take pride in who they are.
Our environment is built on mutual respect and inclusion, enabling every learner to feel seen, heard and empowered to take on new challenges with self-belief.
Able
Academic excellence is at the core of our educational model. Our curriculum is rooted in the highest standards of British education and is complemented by individualised support that ensures each student reaches their full potential.
High expectations are matched by responsive teaching, extension opportunities for high achievers and targeted interventions when necessary. Our young people are not just exam-ready, they are equipped with the skills to think critically, solve problems and lead with purpose.
Responsible
From an early age, students are encouraged to reflect on their actions, make ethical choices, and contribute positively to the world around them. Our pastoral and enrichment programmes foster empathy, resilience, and a strong sense of social and environmental responsibility.
Service projects, sustainability initiatives, and young people-led councils give learners the chance to lead change and make a difference within the School community and beyond.
